Becoming a Rockstar Leader

After 30 years in “Corporate America”, I decided to start my career 2.0, in 2021. While this may not have been the time to become an entrepreneur, it certainly was time for a change for me, my health, and my family.

As a person who likes to build teams and help organizations, it was imperative for me to create something different, something innovative for leaders to tap into.

I don’t mind sharing; it took me a while to understand exactly what that looks like and how to say it clearly. I was frequently asked: what do you do?

So, I would start with a laundry list of assessments, coaching techniques, how I would help leaders bring their unique style of leadership to work…blah blah blah.

Then I was having this same conversation with my colleague and friend, Meshell Baker, and she stopped me in my tracks and said, “Tell me a story about what you do.”

Here we go!

As an avid concert goer, I flew to Atlanta to see one of my favorite bands live, The Struts.

They were playing at a quaint venue, and I arrived early for VIP and choice of seats. Since the first floor – “The Pit” – was standing room only and at my age, standing all night was not an option, I ran up to the balcony for GREAT seats: first row – center stage.

As I was enjoying the evening and singing – out of tune – it hit me, there was a moment – a glance, you might say, when during the show my eyes shifted to the pit, and I noticed the relationship between the fans and the band.

The Pit, packed with singing fans, jumping up and down, waving their hands and having a fun time and the band was leaning into the crowd to engage with them directly. They fed off each other!

Later that evening, I asked myself, “what if” leaders rocked the same attention from their teams as musicians do from their fans?

Therefore, that’s what I do….

I help leaders become a Rockstar Leader who taps into their Side B Behaviors to increase engagement, retention, and creativity, which will ultimately lead to extraordinary results.
